Happi Nizhu

The great crossing

THIS FIVE-DAY TREK will take you far away to the mountains following forgotten paths that only Tibetans walk on the mountain pastures. Dense coniferous forests covered with lichens, passes at more than four thousand meters, high altitude lakes… This adventure will end in Nizhu, a lost village at the bottom of a valley where the inhabitants have preserved their century-old traditions.

five days programme

Among the four nights included in the program, three will be spent in bivouacs.

You will be accompanied by an experienced English-speaking guide who will make you discover the geographical, botanical and cultural richness of the horizons covered during the hike. During the camps, our guide will prepare simple and hearty meals made of local products cooked in a Tibetan, Chinese or Western way.

Day 1 : The ascension

Located only 6 km from Shangri-la, the village of Happi is the starting point of your adventure (3,430 m). After having successively climbed three passes, each offering magnificent views of Shangri-la and its surrounding mountains, you will reach the Living Buddha mountain pasture to spend the night (4,190 m).

Day 2 : Shudu Lake

After a hearty breakfast, the hike continues to several passes to lead to a passage offering, on a clear day, a magnificent view of Yading’s range (6,030 m). Crossing the western slope of Shudu Lake. Camp on a mountain pasture near the national park (3,630 m).

Day 3 : Nambo pasture

Ascent to Nambo mountain pasture, the second largest mountain pasture in Shangri-la county. Night on the large area bordered by magnificent forests (3,850 m).

Day 4 : The lost valley

From the northeast of the meadow, we climb through the woods following the old mule track. After crossing the last pass, a long descent in the heart of a forest of conifers and hundred-year-old oaks. At the bend in the road, in the middle of the pines, the village of Nizhu emerges. Night in a comfortable inn of traditional architecture (2,840 m).

Day 5 : The forgotten village

Visit of the village and its surroundings, free time. Departure by car to Shangri-la around 11 am. Lunch in the stopover village of Luoji, arrival in mid-afternoon in Shangri-la.
