The Vercors plateau is one of the most unique and picturesque landscapes in France: some call it a tall standing island; others a limestone fortress. This karstic giant almost 1,000 square kilometers in size, with cliffs up to 1,600 meters in altitude, has managed to preserve an exceptional flora and fauna. It is home to a great variety of orchid species, and was the first territory the wolf chose to occupy when it returned to France in the late 90's. Ideal for long escapes on foot, horseback or dog-sleigh, its almost horizontal morphology makes it ideal for inexperienced hikers. You don't have to be a pro to come and bask in the beauty of the Mont Aiguille, and touch the dome of the Gran Veymont (2,341 meters altitude).

Followed by three or four donkeys, led by Luc Richard (mountain guide & survival specialist) and Constantin de Slizewicz (photo-reporter & creator of Caravane Liotard), come with us during the Halloween holiday (October 18th to 22nd) along the footpaths of South Vercors: arid plateaux where you feel as if you'd been transported to the Roof of the World, and an astonishing layering of mediterranean and alpine vegetation. The fall season offers mild temperatures and no tourists: a unique opportunity to leave everything behind and lose yourself in this haven of wilderness. This trek is for medium-level hikers in good physical condition, as well as families with children over 10 years old.

It looks just like old National Geographical photographs. Seeing a long horse caravan snaking through the beautiful wilderness of a mountain landscape, a reincarnation of travels of yore, as practiced by early twentieth century explorers…Premium or Light Caravan, four days and three nights from the Ferme Liotard to the majestic Abudje lake.

Accompanied by a solid crew and some thirty horses, together we will spend nine days celebrating forests set ablaze by the rich autumn colors. With bated breath, we will climb all the way up to rocky passages over four thousand meters above sea level, and follow these celestial crests overlooking incredibly beautiful sacred lakes. Like pilgrims, our eyes fixed on the horizon, we will be transported by these cathedrals covered in perpetual snow that will hypnotize the last steps of our adventure.

Far from hell and close to the gods, we walk in the sky between Yading’s main summits. Almost fourty five kilometers walked in five days, mostly uphill, on paths forgotten by the topographic maps. A track almost erased by time, unknown to the young locals who accompany us, strewn with the ruins of ancient mountain cabins. We will walk through landscape reminiscent of drawings by Russian painter Nicolas Roerich.
